Leyland Round Table’s 52nd Charter Night

Leyland Round Table 665 are pleased to announce their 52nd Charter Night in conjunction with Leyland 41 Club.

Paul Morgan, Chairman of Leyland Round Table, has this to say about the event:

Distinguished Signori,

Don Morgan, Godfather of Mafia Leyland Round Table 665 and Don King, Godfather of Mafia Leyland 41 Club, have great pleasure in announcing their combined Charter Night on the evening of Friday 12th October at 7.30 for 8 at Wellington Park, Leyland.

The Charter, my brothers in arms, is where we recognise the good these two “Table Mafiosi” do for the local community and agree to continue their good work for a further year.

Respectful of the other Mafia clans in Area 8, we have organised a fabulous night for you. The highlights include:

  • Glass of Italian Prosecco on arrival
  • Opera from the old country will be piped while we congregate
  • Italian Meal with accompanying Italian wine and Italian liquor
  • Horse racing & betting between courses. I’m not going to tell you the horses running in advance in case anyone wants to nobble a horse by removing its head
  • There will be slurred & whispered speeches from the two Dons
  • The two “Dons” will have Grappa so they can order “shots” on anyone in the room
  • The Da Vinci Room will be made available at the end of the evening for late night Bruschetta

This event is black-tie. Moreover, slick-back hair, hats, white scarf event, and Sicilian accents should be used where possible. There will be a prize for the best dressed Mafioso, however, we do ask that you please leave your coats and violin cases at reception on arrival. Carriages and armoured 1928 Cadillacs for 1pm.

As this is a black-tie event, you are expected to kiss the ring of your “The Don” on arrival.

All this for only £25. Guests are welcome, and this event is sure to be a sell out, so please book in with your Don soon to guarantee a place, or call Paul on 07932 934 412 or Craig on 07515 458 832.

Grazie

It’s all happening on the Isle of Man!

There are two events taking place on the Isle of Man next month.

Firstly, on Friday evening 5 October, Rushen Round Table 1072 is hosting the Area Meeting, which will be held at HQ Bar, 1 Empire Terrace, Douglas, IM2 4LE.

The meeting and meal will be starting at 7pm, then it’ll be out on the streets of Douglas for something that Tablers do very well: drinking ale!

This is, however, only half of the story. The following evening, Rushen Round Table are celebrating their 40th Charter with a ’70s theme. Full details are available on Rushen Round Table’s website at rushen1072.org.uk.

Mad Dog 10K Fun Run Success in Southport

Following on from the incredible success of the original Mad Dog in 2011, on 12 February 2012 Mad Dog 2 (“The Canine Bites Back”) took place at Southport.

Last year (the first running of the event), the race was voted “The best 10K in the country” by Runners World readers, and it looks like the race will win the award again this year.

Unlike last year, the wind stayed away, which made for an incredibly fast course.  The Mad Dog route is flat (as is most of Southport!) and the number of runners who reported a personal best after the event was incredible.

This year saw a 50% increase in running numbers, yet despite this the race was sold out four weeks before the event itself.

This event makes no secret of the fact that it puts runners first and the fund raising for charity second.  Whilst the Mad Dog raises significant amounts for local charities and good causes, the Race Director fully admits that his priority is to give runners a quality Round Table experience.

This was Round Table on show! Every male entrant aged under 45 went through a web page about Round Table on the web site, before entering.  Southport Hesketh RT now have two new prospective members!

Finishers received a technical running shirt, a unique Mad Dog #2 medal and an unbelievably well stocked goody bag.  In addition, there was free fruit at the finish line, free massages and sports injury advice, together with free baggage storage and shower/changing facilities.

This year saw a dramatic increase in the number of club runners, as many running clubs put the event onto their Grand Prix listings.  This year’s results reflected the number of club runners with the top 50 being dominated by running club members.

This race, in memory of the late Tony ‘Mad Dog’ McWade (a former Southport Hesketh Tabler) prides itself on the fact that over 85% of the entry fees go back into the race to provide facilities and benefits for the runners.  The remainder goes to local charities.  All the members of Southport Hesketh Round Table gave their time for nothing.  This is a not-for-profit event and the main aim is to give the runners a quality experience.

The Mad Dog 10K will return on Sunday 10 February 2013, with Mad Dog #3 “Revenge of the Canine”.
